8 Beauty Resolutions for 2018

Every new year I make resolutions - that I don't keep (not drinking for January? Hahahahaha). If you're already feeling bad about broken resolutions, I have 8 health and beauty resolutions I know you'll want to keep. And they're easy.

Resolution: “I will get a good night’s sleep”

If you want to look good you have to feel good so actually getting sleep is so key. I was seeing all the ads for Casper mattresses so I thought I would give it a try. Time Magazine named the mattress one of the best innovations and it really is. You order online, it ships right to your house in a box that is super easy to carry up your stairs, then you open it, and the mattress poofs out and you put it on your bed. It honestly took 5 minutes to get our new mattress on and it’s all about form and function to make the mattress ultra comfortable. And they have the “pillow in a pillow” which are amazing and contribute hugely to a good night’s sleep, as well as really pretty sheets. Mattresses start at about $700 at Casper.ca.

Resolution: “I will take off my makeup every night.”

I know, this is a big one for many of us when we’re tired, but it’s so key for looking better because that dirt clogs pores and gets in your fine lines and wrinkles. A great easy fix is using makeup cleansing wipes. I brought these Yes to Tomatoes Charcoal Wipes because they’re super easy to use, you can use them anywhere and the charcoal detoxifies your skin by attracting the dirt and lifting it out of your pores.

They’re available at Shoppers Drug Mart.

Resolution: “I will not have dry, frizzy hair.”

Dry hair is so common in winter and the fix is conditioning it – a lot. Typically I’d say you’d need to do a hair masque in winter but I know, no one is ever going to fit a weekly hair masque into their schedule, so again I’ve adjusted with a product that you don’t need to leave on for more than 3 minutes. It’s Pantene’s 3 Minute Miracle and it’s a deep conditioner that you can use every time you wash your hair but it contains extra active ingredients in it to give you a deep conditioning treatment as good as a masque but in just 3 minutes.

Resolution: “I will not have dry, cracked skin.”

Just like our hair we need to hydrate our skin in this weather. This is a brand new product from Olay called Whip and it comes in regular or SPF, which we should be applying in the daytime every single day, but what’s so amazing about this product is that often times we choose between a lightweight feel that we can wear under makeup or doesn’t feel too heavy OR a cream that really hydrates – but this gives you the hydration of a cream in a lightweight formula that quickly absorbs into your skin.

Resolution: “I will have flawless looking skin – even if it isn’t flawless”

When it comes to getting even-looking skin, I love a liquid foundation because it hydrates the skin better than a cream or powder. This Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay-in Place Makeup is brand new and stays put for 24 hours. It has a really nice medium- to full coverage that’s buildable, with a matte finish, a lightweight texture, there’s no scent, and it’s transfer resistant so you’re not going to get it on your scarf or clothes. It comes in 30 shades.

Resolution: “I will not have dry, cracked lips.”

Our lips definitely get dry in the winter and that can make us look older and also just be painful. It’s not just the cold weather that gets them but on a sunny day you’re getting sun damage to your skin, which also dries them out. Blistex Triple Essentials lip balms are only $4, you can buy them at any drugstore, they contain mandarin, palmarosa and chamomile to hydrate and soothe lips, as well as SPF 25.

Resolution: “I will have soft, smooth feet.”

No foot cream (no matter how amazing it claims to be!) is ever going to penetrate into your heels if they’re dry and cracked. First, you’ve got to slough off the dead, dry skin that’s accumulated on your feet. I like the Amopé foot file (I’m not alone – it’s the #1 foot file brand in Canada), which is a battery-operated foot file that gently sloughs off dry skin using a rotating head (it comes with 3 so you can interchange them depending on the level of coarse-ness you like). Right now the brand has a gift set valued at $100 (it comes with a great travel bag) available for $50 at Amazon, Walmart and Shoppers Drug Mart.

Resolution: “I will fight those fine lines.”

Everyone knows that collagen is key for looking youthful because it’s the key element we lose as we age, so I’m always on the hunt for a great collagen product. I just discovered Naturel Collagen, a brand that has created two products I’m obsessed with: Native Collagen DNA and Luxury DNA Night Care Cream. These products use collagen hydrate. Most collagens on the market use chemically processed hydrolyzed collagen, which only gives you temporary results. But with collagen hydrate it’s a biologically active, living serum that transforms and heals because it has been preserved – not processed. It instantly penetrates the skin, smoothing wrinkles, plumping and replenishing depleted collagen that we lose as we age. Start by applying Native Collagen DNA to moist skin – with time it diminishes the signs of aging, activating the cells to rebuild and boost collagen production. Once you have applied the collagen and it has absorbed, follow up with Luxury DNA Night Care cream. This cream is velvety soft and is enriched with natural essential oils that offer intense moisturization and nourishment, while the skin regenerates overnight. The fish derived collagen is known by beauty junkies as the “skin rejuvenator” and provides long-term protection against moisture loss and reduces wrinkles. To get these go to www.naturelcollagen.com (that’s naturel with an “e”). Native Collagen DNA is $115 and Luxury DNA Night Care Cream is $85.
