How to look good in your party pics

It’s time for holiday parties, which means we're all spending a little more time on our appearances but it can be time consuming and expensive to go to the salon and spa for all your treatments amiright? Here’s a roundup of my favourite DIY at-home products of the season.

Everything starts with great skin especially because in those Instagram photos or harsh lighting at parties our skin always looks worse than it is. So now’s the time to start treating your skin daily. I love Skinceuticals – they’re a professional skincare line and they create these trio of products that are everything you need to protect, correct and prevent – using vitamin C, hyaluronic acid and a tinted mineral sunscreen. Find the right products for your skin type at www.skinceuticals.ca.

To get rid of unwanted blemishes, I’m obsessed with Bioré’s self heating charcoal masks. These are perfect on the go because they’re single-use and the heat purifies skin. Find them at drugstores.

Another great skin treatment is the Silk’n Revit Prestige. The updated version of Silk’n’s Revit microdermabrasion device is now rechargeable and cordless. It sloughs off dead, dry skin in minutes without any downtime.

Next up is hair. Everyone is rushing to the salon to get their hair cut, coloured, styled before parties, but it’s super stressful because the salon’s are packed. Instead, if you’ve ever considered colouring your hair yourself, now’s the time to check out Clairol’s Nice N’ Easy Colour Care. They’ve reduced the risk of allergic reaction thanks to an ME+ technology, and the scent now smells fresh & florally (no stink!). When it comes to styling, John Frieda’s Luxurious Volume collection is great if you have fine or thin or straight hair but want to get volume, body, and waves this season. The range works in the shower and out, and is super affordable, which I love.

White teeth! I think about teeth whitening in the summer, at weddings, but rarely think about it at the holidays, which is as important if you’re networking with work colleagues (and drinking red wine!!). Crest 3D Whitestrips with Light work in one hour a day for 10 days to whiten teeth compared to the regular strips kit that takes a full month. The blue light breaks down stains on teeth (you just hold it in your mouth for 3-5 minutes at the end of the hour of wearing the whitestrips.

If you’re like me you’ve completely ignored your feet since July and you’ve probably got just a tiny chip of polish left on your toes. And then you realize that you want to wear open toed shoes or sling back heels to that holiday party. The Amope Pedicure gift set is a great buy and works fast on dry feet to slough off dead skin and leave your heels super smooth. And here’s my polish tip: if you’re in a rush, spritz aerosol hairspray onto wet toe polish and it’ll help prevent the polish from smudging until it dries.

Finally, if you want to look good in photos, you want to up your makeup game. Sephora’s Holiday Collection is incredible—and a steal. The Once Upon a Night Blockbuster palette contains more than 100 shades for eyes, cheeks and lips and is valued at $300+ but only costs $65. And the Midnight Kisses #Lipstories lipstick set of 6 shades range from matte to glossy. Available at Sephora.
