Buy or Buh-Bye?

As summer comes to an end and we head into fall there are products you can or should say goodbye to and others that you should start using. So we’re going to play a little game called BUY or BUH-BYE. I’m going to tell you about the category of product, and you’re going to guess if it’s a BUY or a BUH-BYE! Are you ready? Let’s go.

An intense hydrating hair treatment

Buy! After summer, our hair is super dehydrated so you want to do a hydrating treatment to repair your hair. Obviously a haircut is also a great idea, but a hair mask repairs the entire hair shaft, not just the ends. Right now I’ve been loving Pantene’s Intense Rescue Shots, it’s an at-home treatment that contains pro-vitamin B5, strengthening lipids and natural glycerin that targets damaged hair in just one use. You get three vials in a box and they take only one minute to work. It’s like getting an a salon treatment for a fraction of the price.

Powder foundation

Buh-Bye! In the summer you may have been using a powder foundation to combat oil, but in fall you want to be adding more hydration to your skin, even if you have oily skin, so it’s better to choose a liquid foundation.

Tea Tree Oil

Buy! Tea tree oil cleanser is great for combatting acne and breakouts and even deeply cleansing skin after a summer of sunscreen but it’s also gentle enough for sensitive skin and this one,  Life Brand’s tea tree foaming facial cleanser from Shoppers Drug Mart is also moisturizing so it’s great in fall for getting rid of dirt and oil while leaving your skin cool and refreshed and hydrated.

A “skin reset” concentrate — like a facial for your skin.

Buy! Again after summer, our skin is red, puffy, inflamed and irritated from all the products, so it’s great to reset your skin. Estee Lauder just launched its Advanced Night Repair Intense Reset Concentrate. You apply it at night while your skin is repairing and it resets the skin so that when you wake up it’s not red or irritated or puffy anymore.

A clay mask -- hint clay is detoxifying and de-clogging

Buy! After summer your skin is clogged and you may notice more blackheads than normal. You want to detox your skin post summer and a clay mask is a great way to do that because it draws out impurities, minimizes pores and purifies skin. Philosophy purity made simple pore extractor clay mask does all that but it also contains salicylic acid to remove dead skin cells and fight blemishes, and natural exfoliants to give you a deep clean and glow and you can use it all over your face or spot treat. Within two weeks you’ll notice that you have zero blackheads. It’s available at Sephora.

Buy or Buh-Bye?

Buy! Fall is no time to stop using sunscreen -- we need it all year round but often September is just as sunny as summer and you don’t want to get sun damage because you skip sunscreen. Even on your lips!

Waterproof mascara

Buy or Buh-Bye?

Buh-Bye! We may love waterproof mascara in summer so that you don’t have to worry about your mascara staying in place but once fall hits  it’s time to give your lashes a break as waterproof mascara can be hard on them and you can lose a lot while removing it. Opt for a great regular mascara through the winter until spring. I’ve been trying Blinc Mascara tubes, which come off so easily with water.
